Definition

An equation which involves differential coefficient is called a differential equation.

Order and Degree of a differential equation

  • The order of a differential equation is the order of the highest differential coefficient present in the equation.
  • The degree of a differential equation is the degree of the highest derivative after removing the radical sign and fraction.

Formation of a differential Equation

The differential equation can be formed by differentiating the ordinary equation and eliminating the arbitrary constants.

Solution of a differential equation

An equation containing dependent variable (y) and independent variable (x) and free from derivative, which satisfies the differential equation, is called the solution of the differential equation.
